Stanley Classic Legendary Food Jar 0.70L review

The Stanley Food Jar is one of those non-specific, do-it-all products you won’t know you need until you need it. It’s a great 700ml container that’s perfect for storing your hot chilis, couscous, or soups. It’s a universal insulated container that’s ready to hit the road with you. Ideal for camping and overland trips, as well as long work days.

What is the Stanley Classic Legendary Food Jar?

The Stanley Food Jar is Classic and Legendary for a reason, it’s been around for years, feeding workmen throughout the day. It’s a fairly indestructible lunch container, one that can handle abuse and life on the road. The Food Jar can hold up to 700 ml of your favorite food and will keep it hot for 15 hours, or cold for 18.

It’s a great container to store hot leftovers in or use it to store warm or cold foods throughout the day. Besides, it’s perfect for couscous, a fruit salad, yogurt, or overnight oats.

Would we buy it again?

We have used the Stanley Classic Legendary Food Jar for a large part of our Africa expedition and it’s been a great addition to our gear setup. Although we constantly have to remind ourselves that we can use it and that it’s actually useful, it really helps to have it with us.

Its capacity is good enough to make it versatile for a lot of situations. We have often used it for overnight oats, to store leftovers, or to keep our soup hot for lunch (heated in the morning whilst the stove was unpacked). As it’s airtight Manon also loves to store her freshly baked cookies in it!

As overlanders, we don’t find ourselves in situations where we need to bring lunch to work that often, as our kitchen is always with us. However, having a container that’s durable and easy to use for leftovers and foods that need to sit a night, it’s great.

Our approach for gear reviews

As long-term overlanders we fully understand the need for high-quality and reliable gear. We know that if gear isn’t up to standard it can hinder your adventures, resulting in discomfort or a dangerous situation.

We write our reviews after extensive testing and with you – an adventurous overlander – in mind. We hope you appreciate our information, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Pro Tips

The food container is great for making overnight oats. Add some oats, water or milk, syrup cinnamon, and optionally chia seeds, and let them rest for the night. Add some fruit and nuts in the morning and you’ve got a great healthy breakfast!

If you leave the lid slightly unscrewed (to prevent pressurization) it’s also a safe container to store your sourdough starter in during rough adventures. Note that Stanley doesn’t recommend using it for this due to pressurization.
