DD Hammocks Superlight Hammock review
Who knew that adding the DD Superlight Hammock to our camp would change our lives so much? We already had hammocks at home, but with those being too bulky and heavy to bring along, we decided to opt for a new one – made for travel; lightweight, easy to carry, and extremely strong. The DD Superlight Hammock (which is bright orange – called Sunset Orange –, by the way) has exceeded our expectations tenfold.
One of the reasons why we opted for another item in our camp, was the much-needed spot for relaxation. In Europe, we would often sit or lay on the grass or sand, but here in Africa, that doesn’t always feel like the right decision. The DD Hammock allows us to add a place of relaxation to our camp, without having to retreat to our rooftop tent.
What is the DD Hammocks Superlight hammock?
The DD Hammocks Superlight Hammock comes in a small sack (14 x 9 x 7 centimeters) and weighs only 280 grams in total. Soft shackle carabiners, whoopie slings, and tree huggers are included, which means that this hammock has everything you need to set yourself up for some ultimate relaxation after a long, intense day of driving or hiking.
Installing the hammock is fairly easy. After following the included step-by-step instructions on your first try, you’ll immediately get the hang of this ingenious system. Although packing small stuff back into their original sacks can be daunting – just imagine storing a sleeping bag in a small sack – that isn’t the case with this hammock. It fits perfectly, without any struggle.
DD Hammocks has also thought about nifty tricks, such as the four accessory tabs, two on each side, which enable you to store your sunglasses or other items. Additionally, DD also has under blankets, which you can attach to these tabs, so you can even use your hammock in colder climates.

Would we buy it again?
Over the years we have come across a huge variety of landscapes and climates. Not all suitable – or ideal – for the comfy use of a hammock. However, now that we are in Southern Africa temperatures vary and trees are oftentimes plentiful, and we are happy to have this hammock with us. Of course, we can’t wait to use it on our return to Europe, and on future trips to Central Asia, and the Americas. It enables us to relax and admire the trees and sky from a different perspective, wherever we go.
For Manon, it already feels like a safe space to read a book or to take an afternoon nap. Besides, we also use it to spice up our workstations. We now can work on content from our camp chairs, the backdoor, and this hammock. Having some dynamic in and around camp is a great way to spice things up, and keep a camp entertaining. We would strongly advise everyone to bring a hammock along, and this DD Hammocks Superlight version is perfectly suited for our lifestyle and limited storage capacity.
