Liberpee Review

With this Liberpee review, it is time to address the taboo of peeing in the wild. Imagine yourself in the desert of Namibia, in search of a toilet because you need to go. For men, it is quite simple regardless of how busy it might be with other tourists. You walk away from the group, you turn your back on everyone and you do your business. Yet for women, the whole situation looks different, and if I may say so, far more awkward and uncomfortable. You have to sit down – which is no problem in the desert, but perhaps it is when grasses stand tall underneath you, itching and frustrating you –, then you pull your pants down so everyone can see what you’re doing, and the worst of all is that you end up with some wet toilet paper, scrunched away in your hand so you can dispose of it somewhere discreetly.

What is the Liberpee

With Liberpee, these problems belong to the past. Liberpee is a Dutch pee funnel brand, created for all kinds of situations, not only the one described above. It is made of high-density polymers, which make sure that no residues or smells stay behind after doing your business. Not even after a thousand times, if the website is correct. I’m very curious about that to be honest!

As said before, it can be used in all kinds of situations. From going outdoors to avoiding dirty public toilets and even using them when you have (temporary) physical restrictions as they can be used while sitting. The Liberpee is there for you so you don’t have to hold up your most urgent needs, and you get to do so hygienically and easily.

Specifications

  • Suitable for girls and women from 4 years and older
  • Length: 19.4 x 4.4 x 4.5 cm
  • Weight: 24 grams (+5 grams for the pouch)
  • Material: Polyethylene
  • Available in a variety of colors
  • Including storage pouch

Pros

  • Anatomical design, this enables you to store it back in its pouch without dripping or having to dry it off beforehand.
  • Comes in all kinds of colors, which makes it fun for children to use.
  • Lightweight, which is always great!
  • Easy in use, you’ll get used to it after only a few times of ‘testing’ the pee funnel.
  • You don’t need to use toilet paper.

Cons

  • Although I don’t have much experience with pee funnels, it surprised me that you still have to pull your pants down slightly. Without a long t-shirt, people can still see something. I haven’t tried it with pants with zippers though.
  • I like to rinse mine with water every now and then (when water is close by) as not all drops fall off after using it.
  • You have to get used to standing the right way, as you might ‘splatter’ yourself if you lean backward too much. Nevertheless, it doesn’t take long to get it right.

Would we buy it again?

Definitely! I never knew I needed a pee funnel until someone showed me theirs. Before buying the Liberpee, I used to sit down awkwardly as close to the car as possible (in the case of peeing while driving somewhere), or I would swear time after time when peeing during a hike, only to realize that I forgot some toilet paper to wipe myself clean. There have been plenty of times as well where I wished I was a man, only having to turn away from a crowd to do my business, instead of holding it up and searching for a suitable place to pee in the meantime.

So, if you ask me if I would buy it again, the answer is definitely yes. Additionally, I would definitely recommend it to all women I know, to make them buy one as well.

Our approach for gear reviews

As long-term overlanders we fully understand the need for high-quality and reliable gear. We know that if gear isn’t up to standard it can hinder your adventures, resulting in discomfort or a dangerous situation.

We write our reviews after extensive testing and with you – an adventurous overlander – in mind. We hope you appreciate our information, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Have no shame

At first, I felt so awkward. Even the thought of using a pee funnel made me giggle. What would people think, seeing me standing upright, peeing next to the road? I didn’t even want to know. As I received my Liberpee, I realized what a huge difference it made while overlanding and now all I wanted to do was share it with women I knew, who could also use it. That felt awkward at first too, but as my mom and friends all bought them – and came back raving – I knew there was no need to feel shame about owning a Liberpee. It simply changes your life for the positive!

Wash that bag

We noticed after using the Liberpee for over a year that it’s worth washing the bag monthly if you use the Liberpee daily. Although the Liberpee is good at staying clean, after a while the bag got dirty nonetheless. May it be due to residue on the Liberpee itself, or our dusty old Land Rover. Cleaning it in boiling water every month is a good way to keep it hygienic.
